Amara

Update 12/22/09 (continued): She is very bonded with her sister Sitara, but also seems to enjoy the company of other dogs in general. At the dog park, she socializes with everyone, dog or human. She would make an ideal pet for a loving family who can give her some love and attention, which she will return tenfold!

11/22/09: Amara is a sweet girl whose family has fallen on hard times and cannot provide the home Amara and Sitara have always had. Amara has a brown ear and nice black eye liner on one eye with pretty brown eye shadow. She is crate trained and will whine to go out and potty. Amara and Sitara are littermates and are very bonded so we would like to adopt them out together. If not, Amara needs to go to a home with another dog as she has never been without her sister and gets very stressed when they are apart. These two sisters get along with all size dogs and lived with a 5-year-old boy and cats. They like to visit the dog beach and dog park.

More to come with new pictures and updates once they are settled in their new foster home.

Apollo

1/22/10: Apollo is a BIG sweetheart, but a little confused at the moment. His first guardian passed away about 5 months ago. Then a nice girl working at a vet's office took him in, had him neutered and treated for Heartworms, but now can't keep him in her apartment. Apollo can't hear, but he does understand basic hand commands. He is house, crate and leash trained. He loves to run and play with other dogs and go for car rides!! Apollo's ideal home will have another dog and no small children, as they can easily startle him due to his deafness. Look at those eyes...pleading to go to a real home, with a family to love and take care of him forever.

Brody

Update 10/26/09: It's day two and Brody is still doing extraordinary! He loves being around us and the other dogs! He hasn't had any accidents and he's not misbehaving. He is showing no signs of anxiety or aggression. Brody just seems so happy to be with people and dogs again and out of a cage. He is eating and sleeping and exercising very regularly, and he is already accustomed to his meal schedule. He already has some favorite toys and he we have taught him to shake! He is very playful! Our pug already thinks he's a boxer too.

10/21/09: I was given up due to a new family member who was allergic to me.

In my old home, I had a female playmate and we got along great, so I'm sure if I was properly introduced to a new playmate, we could get along too. Or I would be happy just being your "boy" and giving you lots of attention, boxer kisses and hugs. Recently I had some teeth removed, ouch, but I'm recovering and now I really need a new home. Would you please consider me as I will be a loyal, good boxer to you...just give me a chance.

Brooke Anne

Update 1/26/09: Hello, my name is Brooke Anne. I am at my foster home and they have lots of interesting things to smell, look at and do. They have a cat....I think I like her, I just want to smell her real close and she won't let me. Oh yea, they have a REALLY big water bowl, foster Mom calls it a pool; all I can say is, Man it was cold when I went in!!!

Foster Mom here. Brooke has been here a very short time, but she is so sweet, and very petite. She is heart worm positive, so she will start treatment in February She is house trained and crate trained. We are working with her eating habits and leash walking. More to come as we learn more from this sweet little girl.

1/20/10: Brooke needs to gain some weight and complete heartworm treatment. More to come as her foster mom and fur brothers and sisters get to know her.

Buddy II

Update 5/28/10: When Buddy first came to Florida Boxer Rescue in October 2009 he was suffering from a severe case of Demodex that was so bad his eyes were nearly swollen shut. After a week at Seminole Animal Hospital he was brought to his foster home. Despite being very sick, he was very happy to be with people he knew would care for him. Buddy is an amazing story of recovery. He is an active, energetic adolescent that loves to play, but most of all, this guy just wants to spend time with people. He’s been separated from the pack due to the resident male being dominant and he really needs a good home. He is great with kids; his foster home has a two-year old nephew that visits regularly and plays with him; he is gentle and careful. He is crate trained and house trained, and he walks well once he gets going. Buddy could not have been named any better – he will make an active family a wonderful dog and become someone’s best Buddy. He is good with other dogs, but we don’t know too much about cats.

Update 3/30/10: Hi everyone, Buddy here. Sorry I’ve been out of touch for a while. I look and feel much better now that the Demodex is almost gone, and I weigh 90 pounds! I am house trained and crate trained. I am good with kids of all ages, but don’t know my own strength so I do need to be supervised a little. I like to go for walks and my foster dad says I pull a little at first because I am so happy, but I calm down once we get going. I love going for car rides also. I really love to be with people, and I’ll give you lots of boxer kisses if you let me. I am good with other dogs but I don’t know about cats. I am ready for my forever home and promise to make someone very happy to be with me.

Update 12/10/09: Buddy has had a rough couple of months, but you wouldn't know it by the way he behaves. He was suffering from a bad case of Demodex when his foster home took him and he developed another infection on top of it. He is now on a course of antibiotics and has to be kept calm. This hasn't been too hard since he is crate trained and doesn't seem to mind spending a lot of time in there. Despite everything this boy has been through, he is full of love, kisses, and wiggles. Buddy loves to play with his foster sister, is great with young kids. He really wants to be part of the family and will make someone and incredible, loyal, Buddy.

10/26/09: Buddy has severe Demodicosis all over his head and body. His eyes are nearly swollen closed. His mouth and face are also swollen. He was taken directly to Seminole Animal Hospital. Buddy also tested positive for Hook Worms. Although Buddy is very ill, he was very happy to be freed from Animal Control. He loved being outside, almost as though he knew he was beginning his new life. He is very loving and enjoyed eating cookies on his trip to vet.

Here are more pictures of Buddy.

Buster

Update 2/2/10: Buster went to vet today; turns out he has kennel cough. He was put on medication and the vet gave him a deworming dose as well. Buster is still having some potty accidents inside, but trying hard :)

2/1/10: I really like my new home. It is way WAY better than that shelter I was in. I'm a pretty easy going guy; I generally go with the flow. I liked the car ride to Sarasota from Lakeland... I slept pretty much the whole way. I get along really well with other dogs. I like my new siblings at my foster home, Trixie and Tank, who wrestle a lot. I try to wrestle with them, but since I was just fixed my foster parents will only let me play for a little at a time until my incision heals.

I don't complain at all when I have to go back into my kennel to rest. Since I was in a shelter for a while I'm not quite used to going outside to the bathroom, but I am trying really hard to follow what Tank and Trixie do. There are 2 kids here as well, and I really like them a lot.

There was a whole bunch of kids here today because they all wanted to meet me and I was very happy to be the center of attention - I loved it! My foster mom vacuumed last night and the noise didn't bother me a bit. I am pretty good on a leash. I pull a little bit, but hey, I'm young and that's what us young bucks do :) My foster parents say that I'm pretty skinny and that I need to fatten up a bit. Well, I like to eat, so that should not be a problem! I know how to sit (although it's short lived) and for the most part I will come when I'm called. I like to lay right behind my foster parents when they are on the computer and I like to lay right by the couch with them when they are watching TV. When it comes to companionship, I'm the man! I'll post an update to my story as soon as I've settled in a little more.

Chip

Original comments: Chip is a happy boy who gave boxer slurps to every FBR volunteer he met on the way to his foster mom. This friendly boy made himself right at home, ignoring the cat and playing with his female "sister". Chip impressed his foster mom by showing her he already knows sit, shake, down and roll over. Chip is another Boxer coming into rescue with heartworms, so he will have to go through treatment and the quiet confinement required before he will be ready to run and play. Check back for more info from Chip's foster mom.

Cleatus

12/3/09 (continued): His owner reported he is also good with kids and cats. Cleatus has made the rounds in rescue as he was found hiding in bushes after Hurricane Francis a few years back and now finds himself with FBR. Cleatus would love to have a home for Christmas, even if you just want to give this big boy a comfy bed temporarily and foster him I know he'd shower you with kisses and boxer wiggles. Please apply to adopt or foster Cleatus. More information to come and better pictures once we can get him to stop wiggling for a second :o)

Dalton

Original comments: Dalton is a sweet fellow that has had a really rough time for a while. He needs to gain some weight in order to address his health issues. More to come once he settles into a foster home.

Update 10/10/09: Dalton is doing well; he has put on least 10 pounds. We gave him his last treatment for hookworm this week. Dalton will be scheduled for the heartworm and other treatments as he puts on weight. We haven't been able to excercise him too much yet, but he is steadily improving. We will update you as his condition improves and his doctor visits are complete.

Dexter II

Update 1/10/10 (continued): Dexter does great living with a small dog and a cat. He didn't do as well meeting another Boxer and a Mastiff but possibly could with the proper introduction.

Dexter is a sweet, obedient boy that requires no training--just move him right in. Please apply if you can provide Dexter a good home.

Update 11/19/09: Dexter II and his foster parents are counting the days until his allergy tests can be done in mid-December! But in the meantime, Dexter just LOVES his toys!!! For Halloween, he got a new rope toy and a squeeky frog. Check out his latest pics, he doesn't know which one he likes more so he's keeping his paws on both. Oh yeah, and he figured out his foster brother Petey makes a nice pillow!

Update 10/27/09: Dexter continues to be a good boy!! We were all ready to get his blood tested to see what environmental agents he's allergic to, but it turns out he needs to be steriod-free for 60 days to obtain accurate test results, so........we're waiting until mid-December for that.

We switched his food from Science Diet Z/D to Rabbit & Potato, he's taking antihistamines daily and there's a medicated spray for his skin that we put on twice daily--so the allergies are being controlled, but we hope to have an even better handle on them after his blood test.

We found out that Dexter II loves chasing tennis balls a couple of weeks ago. Now we know that he also LOVES squeaky toys. To the point that 2 of the 3 no longer have their 'squeakers'! Here are pics of him with the 'squirrel' and the 'white teddy'.

Please keep checking back on Dexter II. He's a sweet, well-behaved boy that will be someone's loyal, forever, best friend soon.

Update 10/5/09: Hi everyone! I'm writing my own update this week because foster Mom says she's 'dog tired'!

It's been a great week! We took extra long walks on the days when it was cool out. We have a nice park by our house filled with trees and TONS of good smells. One day, when no one else was there, they took my leash off and I got to fetch big huge sticks! Then we'd go home and play tennis--well, I guess it's really fetch, but it's with a tennis ball. As long as they keep throwing it, I'll keep chasing it.

Here are some pics of me doing some of my favorite things....going on walks and riding in foster Dad's truck to go to the store---yes, Home Depot. I think I'll have my very own orange vest to wear if he keeps taking me there!! Bye for now, it's time for another walk :)

Update 9/28/09: Dexter II is SUCH a GOOD boy! Him and Petey the min-pin are fast friends and Dexter does great with the cat --s he hasn't warmed up yet, but he is perfectly fine and I don't worry about him around her at all. Dexter is also very smart! Within days he learned to do 'sit/stay' before he gets his breakfast and dinner. He also learned 'get back', meaning he stands back when coming in and out of doors while waiting for the humans to go first.

His handsome looks get him a lot of attention! While on a walk today, a nice gentleman pulled over and parked his car just to come over and meet Dex. He was so impressed with his white markings and sweet face.

Update 9/28/09 (continued): Then hubby brought him to Home Depot [where else?!] and another shopper was so taken with Dexter that Dave had to give her my phone number and the website before he could get away!!

We're not even one week into his 10-week food trial, so not much to report there. But we are going to have an allergy blood test done so we can obtain a list of exactly what Dexter is allergic to and what food will be best for him. This will make life much easier for his forever family!! For now, Dexter is eating Hills Prescription Diet Z/D. An 18 pound bag is costing FBR $65--at 4 cups a day that won't last long! If you can find it in your heart and checkbook to make a donation towards Dexter II's food bill, we'd REALLY appreciate it!

Here are a few more pics: one is of Dexter's habit that we're working on: he LOVES the couch! The other is him and his foster brother Petey. Keep an eye on Dexter, more updates to come.

Original comments: Dexter was born on 5/14/2006 and has dealt with allergies most of his young life. FBR will complete allergy testing and determine the best course of action to keep him healthy and happy! He has been on Potato and Venison food forever and gets baths with special shampoo. He's a very sweet boy, a little on the shy side. He has lived with small children and a cat. He gets along well with other dogs and gets very attached to his humans. He rode great in the car on the way to the vet, walked well on the leash and hasn't done much or any barking/talking. But he does wiggle and give little kisses! Please keep an eye on Dexter for updates--he will be a GREAT companion for someone who will help him take care of his allergies.

Maybe you have allergies too and understand what he's going through? You could be the perfect mom or dad to take care of him! I'm sure he'd love to have a little skin-brother or sister back in his life but most of all, he just wants a forever home with a human to love and take care of him. And wait 'til you see his picture--coming in a couple of days. He has a gorgeous white triangle on his nose and puppy-dogs eyes that are pleading for hugs and love.

Dominic

11/23/09: Found as a stray, Dominic has had a rough life lately. He is very skinny and suffering the ill effects of never being neutered. Dominic still laughs at life and seeks the company of people and other dogs. More to come when his foster family gets to know him.

Dude

Update 1/20/10 (continued): He does not like to be left alone, so another dog to have as company would be good. He is crate trained but does not like to be in there for long periods of time. We have taken Dude to many stores, he is the best on a leash. He would be great with anyone that must be in a wheel chair or on crutches or even a walker. We have a daughter that is on crutches and he walks right beside her, never pulling, tripping on them or walking in front of her. He is a "leaner" so if you stop he will lean on the crutches or on your leg. Dude does have some scars from his previous life, but hey, they are just character. He would love to meet his forever family. Is that family yours?

1/7/10: Dude is adorable and cuddly and he gives the best hugs and kisses. He likes long walks and good food too. He was given up by his owner and he is lost and confused as to why that happened. So, he's a little shy to begin with, but once he warms up he's great. He seems to be crate trained and he rides well in the car. Dude is now looking for his forever home.

Return

Edgar

12/31/09: Edgar is a big goofy sweetheart. He had kisses for everyone he met and rode beautifully in the car. He definately did NOT like the cats at the vets office. However, while I have not seen him around kids or other dogs, I have a feeliing he would do just fine. Do you have a place for the SWEETEST BOXER I HAVE PICKED UP ALL YEAR?

Emmit

4/2/10: I love to lay in bed with you and watch tv. They say I'm pretty well behaved when left alone, however I did have a bad day and drug everything out of the closets! But, my foster mommy said I didn't tear anything up! My favorite things to do are play with my skin pal with my toys. I get a little to excited and knock him down sometimes because I LOVE my toys! But, I'm learning!!

When I came to FBR I had 2 kinds of worms. Yuck! But, I go into the vet to get my second shot this week. They say I need to run some test on me to see why I have to drink all the time. Check back to see what the vet says!!

Return

Enzo

5/12/10 (continued): Enzo doesn't love the crate but will get in and quiet down. He's completely house trained and he loves Natural Balance rolls cut up into treats... he doesn't go crazy for peanut butter. Enzo needs to be lifted into the car, but then he does fine on the ride. He likes to play with a Kong Bone & Rope toy if you encourage him. Enzo is learning fast to sit and stay before eating and going out. Then he looks at you with beautiful brown eyes that say "teach me what you want me to do and I'll be a good boy, I promise!" Enzo should be neutered in the next couple of days and then he'll be ready for HOME!

Return

Gunther

Update 3/9/10: Hey! Gunther again…thought I would update you all on how I am doing. I forgot to mention that I really love to ride in the car and I will jump into any car you want! I sit very nicely and don’t make any noise. I also don’t like to lick or drool, actually I only drool when I drink water. My foster mom and dad love this about me! Since I learned how to “sit” my foster mom has been teaching me to “lay down” which isn’t to hard for me since I like to lie down on the couch all day and have my belly rubbed. I also decided I don’t like lawn mowers. My foster mom had some people come over to mow the lawn and the noise upset me a little. I went into my crate and cried for a few minutes. I went to the vet yesterday because I wouldn’t stop itching my ears.

The vet took me to the back and I walked by a cat and he said I didn't find him interesting...but that could have been because I was a little nervous being there anyway. The vet said I am very healthy besides my ear infection (which I am taking medicine for now). Talk to you all soon! –Gunther

Update 3/7/10: Hey everyone, Gunther here! I just got to my new foster home yesterday and I am doing so well! My foster mom and dad tell me I am so handsome, but I could stand to gain a few pounds. I slept very well in my crate last night and only cried for a few minutes. My kong with some peanut butter helped a lot. I am house trained and I’ve already learned to how to sit. Today I had my first bath and worked on walking on my leash. During our walk I was curious about people who walked by me, but by then end of the walk I didn’t care much about them. I even walked by a couple of dogs and did fine. My foster mom was very pleased ;-) I like to sleep…a lot, and be around my foster mom and dad for some snuggling on the couch. More updates to come as they get to know me better!

3/3/10: Gunther came to us from animal control. Seems to get along fine with other dogs, male and female. Seems very sweet. More to come once we get to know him better.

Jake

Update 6/3/09 (continued):

Please, won't you make me the bright star in your life and meet me today. I will show you that I still have a lot of love and loyalty to give. Come give me a hug (which I love) and I'll give you back a big boxer kiss. I'm waiting for you!

Update 4/6/09: Jake is just the sweetest boy. He loves to snuggle and wiggles at the slightest touch and is always ready to give kisses. His leg is doing much better with meds and laid back activity. Jake has the run of the house when we are gone and has been completely trustworthy.

Update 4/6/09 (continued): He has become a little spoiled since being in his foster home, now occasionally enjoying a snooze on the bed or couch like the other dogs. Like many of us who are a little older, Jake takes some medication to keep him enjoying life to the fullest. If you're looking for an easy loyal companion with a lot of love to give, then Jake is for you!

Update 12/15/08: Hi, this is Jake here. I'm in my new foster home now with three other dogs. They are small, medium, and large. There is also a cat and a rabbit here. The cat does her own thing and I do mine...she is just a cat. The rabbit stays in her crate like me. Right now my back leg is sore, but my foster mom has been giving me medicine for that, so hopefully I will feel like going on walks soon. I really like to ride in the car. If you are looking for a quiet, well mannered (if I do say so myself) and laid-back forever friend, than I am your man.

From Jake's foster mom: Jake is a very sweet boy. He only stays in his crate at night and when we are at work. Otherwise, he has free run of the house. He never gets on the furniture and he has never had an accident in the house. Jake is a very low maintenance boy. He's an older boy, therefore that means no puppy training needed !!

Original comments: Jake was taken by relatives of a person that did not care about him; he was being mistreated. Over the past 4 months he has seen the vet, been put on heartworm and flea meds, gained his weight back and has been brought back to excellent condition. He is now a very happy, playful dog that loves people, going for car rides, etc. More to come.

Return

Jasper

11/17/09 (continued): I currently have a skin brother in my house and he's fun to play tug with. I also have a furry K9 sister that plays with me a lot, too. She's great, I just lay down and let her take my toy then we play keep away and tug. I can really chew up some toys! So far, mom says I've been a good boy. I did make that one mistake with the, what did she call it? Oh yeah, a flip-flop? Silly people, it looked like a doggie toy to me! My mom doesn't have any other furry friends so she isn't sure how I would act with cats yet.

My mommy says I am a bed hog. If she would just let me sleep up there with her she'd see how snuggly warm I could keep her! I really like to lay right by her...well kind of on top of her. I am a lap dog you know! My mom keeps telling me what a good boy I am. I am learning how to sit and stay before I go out of the door so that I don't knock people over when they get in my way. I am house broken but because I lived outside for 5 months I have to be reminded every now and then to hold it. I am crate trained and go sleep in my kennel all by myself when I want some quiet time.

Please come and meet me! I promise to love you - I love everyone! Just ask me for kisses and you'll see. :)

Oh, and by the way, I love my tail...not sure my foster mom does because she keeps telling me to hold it still, but gosh it's fun to swing around!

Boxer slurps until later!

Jewels

Update 12/29/09 (continued): I currently have the run of the house with no problems. I am a great watch dog and bark when needed. I even got my own toy to play with for Christmas - what fun. If you are looking for a great girl I am the one. Please keep me in mind if you are looking for a new house mate. Will bark at you all soon!

12/10/09: Meet Jewels! She's a beautiful, sweet, shy, big girl who was wandering the streets for a while...lost from her family. A nice lady found her, but couldn't find who is missing her. Jewels was well cared for and spayed. She doesn't run off and walks well on a leash. She's house trained, but not crate trained. Jewels gets along with other dogs and children, but we're not sure about cats. She is now living with her foster family, who already loves her. Jewels will be going to the vet soon, so her foster family will send us more information.

JoJo

Update 4/9/10: JoJo has started her heartworm treatment and is doing well. She currently gets along with her two foster sister boxers who are close to her size but has not made up her mind yet about her foster brother that is quite larger than her. (All are boxers) She has put some weight on lounging around and is looking healthier. JoJo is not allowed to play right now but before treatment began she walked well on leash for long distances. She is still quite the cuddler and boxershadow to her humans. She is less vocal now with some training. JoJo is house trained and crate trained.

3/14/10: JoJo has lots of boxer energy and can leap quite high. I am sure she could clear a 4' fence if she wanted. She will need training not to jump on people.

3/14/10 (continued): JoJo did well in the car with someone in the backseat with her. She follows you all over the house and does not like to left alone. She does have heartworms and will need to be treated for them. JoJo also needs to put on some weight. More information to come as her foster family gets to know her better.

2/15/10: I am a healthy, beautiful little white powder dog that has had 4 homes in my short life. They said at my temporary home of 3 weeks that I am too good to lose but they are full already. I come when called and love the cats in the barn and the dogs that are also there.

I would love to be in a home where someone is home day and night because sometimes I get scared. Who wouldn't after so many homes? Anyway, I would really like to have a permanent home to call my own, and I promise I will love you no matter what!

Return

Leroy Brown

Update 9/14/09 (continued): I love to sleep on the couch, watch TV and sometimes play with Tigger and Tyson (although sometimes they bug me and I have to let them know about it). I enjoy walks, I walk real good on my leash (really a harness). I love playing with balls, I like going to the ball fields and fetching a baseball.

Sometimes my foster skin nephew and niece come to play--we can look eye to eye, but they can be a little bossy, but since my foster parents call them grandkids, I make sure I am really good. If someone is looking for a good looking, playful, loving (hope you like kisses) 5 year old boxer, I am your man.

Update 8/10/09: Hey, its me Leroy. I wanted to let everyone know I am done with my heartworm treatment.
Had a little scare there for a moment. My heart was doing all kind of crazy things. Turned out that is was from the heartworm treatment and I am good to go. I can't be neutered until November but doc say I can do anything I want - run, play, jump thru hoops. I really want my own family to love, and I'll shower kisses on my new mom and dad! So, if you can handle me not being neutered until November, I can go home with you now.

Love, Leroy

Update 4/15/09: Leroy is a sweet loving boy that really likes to play with toys--it's probably been a long time since he's had any. It's also been a long time since him and his son Bozo received any human interaction, attention and love. Due to this fact, when they did go to a new home together and were showered with love and attention, Leroy became extremely jealous of Bozo and would show it.

Leroy can blossom in an only-dog home and will be a faithful loving companion giving you lots of snuggles and kisses; please consider making him your sweet, sweet Leroy Brown.

Original comments: Leroy Brown is 5 years old; he and his son Bozo were both surrendered and are being fostered together. They are being vetted on March 28, so please check back soon for an update.

Update 4/3/09: Leroy is heartworm positive. After his treatment, which should take about a month, Leroy will be neutered.

4/19/10 (continued): He drove me home in his nice car and then gave me a bath. I feel so much better now. I have a new step-brother who weighs about three pounds; I almost didn't see him! I also have two nice little kids to play with me, a boy and a girl under the age of 8. This nice man and his wife even got me my own crate. They tell me I have to go to the vet to check me out. I am heartworm negative, Yay!!! As my new foster family gets to know my fun self, they will tell you more about me. I really am Lucky and cute too!

Max

Update 3/17/10: Hey! Like my new pics? Foster mom said I needed to update you, so here's the low-down on me: I LOVE long walks, car rides, hanging out with foster mom's crawling nephew, staring out the window, cuddling, sunbathing and most of all... PEANUT BUTTER!!! There are a few things that I'm not so fond of like cats (unless chasing is OK), being left in a crate, and bath time (I'll cooperate once you get me in the tub). So if you wanna meet me, the coolest laid-back boxer ever, fill out an application and put my name on it. Hope to meet you soon. Oh, and please bring more peanut butter, I think we're out.

1/20/10: Hey Max here! I started my life like a dream with a family that loved me, gave me a name and taught me how to live in a home. Somewhere along the way they must have stopped loving me because I was forced to live tied up outside, which explains why my hair is worn off in a few spots, but don’t worry, it’s quickly growing back. Thankfully I escaped and was found roaming the streets of Lake County to be rescued by FBR. Foster mom and dad named me Maximus “Max” because they say I’m just a big teddy bear. I don’t know about the bear thing, but I am a very chill guy who just wants to cuddle. I get along well with other dogs and even 9-month-old babies! I was very gentle with foster mom’s nephew! Walks are great, but sometimes I get excited when I see a squirrel, so I need to practice my leash manners. I love car rides, and don’t need a crate when left alone. If you are ready for a laidback boy to cuddle and love, I’m your man.

Megan

Update 5/7/09: Megan is sooo happy right now!! She was full of love and kisses for the volunteers that helped her get from the vet to her foster home. If you are looking for a low maintenance, loving companion, Megan is the girl for you. She hasn't had to be crated [because she doesn't get into anything] she's house-broken, walks well on a leash, doesn't jump up on people, continues to be good with kids and cats,and.....drum roll please.....she gives High 5's!

She received a clean bill of health from the doc and she is ready for her forever home.

Original comments: Megan has been surrendered and is getting a work up at the vet's. We know she needs to be spayed. Her former owner let us know that her 'likes' are riding in the car and her 'dislikes' are being left outside. She sits for treats and knows how to 'shake'. She has also been known to sleep while sitting! She is not crate-trained but is house-trained. She was living with kids, a male boxer, and a cat and would probably like to be back in that type of family environment. Please check back in a couple days for an update and consider fostering or adopting this sweet girl.

Punkin

Update 11/12/09: Punkin has blossomed in her foster home. She LOVES attention and gets tons from her foster dad and Boxer brothers. She is deaf and has learned some hand signals. Her foster dad reports she is extremely smart...and a big cuddler! Do you have room in your heart and home for a special needs girl like her?

10/13/09: Punkin is a non-hearing boxer who needs a new home due to her current owners financial situation. Punkin is housetrained, crate trained and walks on a leash well. Her best friend is a Basenji mix whom she adores. They do everything together, including sleep in the same crate. Punkin knows some hand signals, and has free roam of the house when the owner is gone. Punkin will need to be placed with another dog due to her deafness.

Rex

Update 5/9/10 (continued): He goes outside and walks all around the pool, but knows he can't go into the pool unless he is invited! Amazing! Rex will see us going swimming and he will get all excited but will not go into the pool unless we take off his collar and invite him into the pool. He goes to the steps and walks into the pool and then jumps into the pool! Older children would be best for Rex and Rex definately needs a Furever home that has rules, boundaries and limitations. He plays extremely well with his boxer buddy at his foster home.

Update 4/16/10: Hi, Rex here. I look pretty snazzy in my new pictures, don't I!!

Update 12/16/09: Rex is a very special boy and is doing wonderful in his foster home. Rex is energetic and has a lot of love to give, but he needs the right furever home. Rex had separation anxiety and is working hard to overcome it. He now goes into his crate and settles right down. Rex needs a family with children over the age of 10 so the children can be pack leaders and Rex can follow. He is fearful of new people, but we are working on that with him. Rex needs a very structured home. His new family should understand that he needs exercise, rules, boundaries and limitations, and THEN Love!!! He loves to run and plays with his toys by himself.

Update 12/16/09: He is a happy dog and loves life! Rex has taken up roller blading and LOVES IT!! He goes roller blading (running) almost every day with his foster skin brother Daniel and has really gotten the hang of it.

Original comments: 11/3/09: Hi, I'm Rex. My new foster family will be telling you more about me shortly...so stay tuned!

Rock-O

Update 6/9/10 (continued): Anyone who meets Rock-O is so impressed with his behavior and loving heart. Rock-O does bark at random catd or dogs walking by. When one on one with a cat he usually ignores it. It takes a little time for Rock-O to get used to other dogs. Once he is aquainted he loves to have a playmate.

Update 2/25/10: Rock-O is adjusting very well to his new foster life. He was recently neutered and is healing fast. Rock-O is very sweet natured and low maintenance. He loves going on long walks as well as running with his foster mom. Rock-O enjoys cuddling at night especially when he is allowed in bed. He is housebroken and there is no need tocrate him. We are working on learning new commands especially walking (not pulling) on his leash. When Rock-O gets excited he likes to do the boxer wiggle and jump around. He also enjoys car rides with the windows open. Though small for his age, Rock-O is big in heart and love.

2/16/10: My name is Rock-O and I've just been sprung from a shelter in Orlando! I am one lucky boxer! I'm pretty petite and I have a lot of energy. I'm heartworm negative and everyone here at FBR is very happy about that. The only thing I have to do before I'm ready for adoption is to be neutered. I'm OK with that because I'd rather make sure none of my offspring ever have to go where I just came from. More to come from me as my foster mom gets to know me.

Return

Rocky

Update 12/20/09 (continued): He doesn’t seem to like cats and tends to want to be the man of the house so he would do best in a home without cats and either as an only dog or with another female. He hasn’t been around too many children since living with me, but did fine when around my 9-year-old cousin when she visited, so based on my experience with him, I would assume that he would do fine in a home with kids.

Everyone that visits seems to fall in love with this guy, and trust me, if the situation was different, I would adopt him in a heartbeat. Please take a moment to check out Rocky and see if he would be the perfect fit for you and your family.

Update 11/10/09: Well hello everyone! I am happy to report that I have recently completed my second round of heartworm treatment and I'm on the road to being a completely healthy boy. My foster mom says that I have to stay calm for the next few months, but I don't mind because I get to lie around a nice, comfortable house all day. Don't tell, but she does let me play with my foster sister once in a while as long as I don't get too excited.

Well, I don't want to brag, but mom tells me that she thinks that I'm a pretty handsome, well-mannered guy and whoever adopts me will be very lucky to have me around. I know all of the basic commands, walk well on a leash, don't get on any of the furniture and know better than to jump on people when they come in the house.

Update 11/10/09 (continued): I've lived with female boxers my whole life so I would love to find a family that has a sister for me to play with. I'm not too sure about those boys though, as I kind of like to be the man of the house. I haven't been around a lot of kids since I've been with my foster mom, but the few times I have, I just love the attention that they give me and think that it would be great to have a skin kid in the house to give me treats and play with me all day. Trust me, I love my foster home, but I would love to find my forever home soon. Could that be you?

Update 9/1/09: Wow! Am I glad to be indoors with A/C! I am like at the Ritz with three other Boxer ladies and we have a time! We all play together and two are seniors and one is a teenager girl named Lulu. I'm a real handsome dude with a good health record except for some heartworms, although my heart looks good and I am healthy otherwise. I really would like to have a home like I used to have with people that will talk to me and touch me and love me. But I really don't care for those little critters that go MEOW. I can't resist chasing them and I am very strong. So please - just a home with folks that want me to love them and love me back! I am your man!

Original comments: Hi, Rocky here! I have lived with Brittany all my life and now our owner has become too ill to care for the two of us. We have been tied outside at a friend's house waiting to go home, but that's not going to happen. So please come see us and make us part of your family.

Return

Rosco

Update 9/6/09: Here's the scoop... Rosco is good with cats and kids, and he's just fine around his fur foster brother, Rylie, who can't walk. But Rylie must be special, because Rosco would rather not be around other dogs. So he'd be best in a home as the only dog, but bring on the cats and the kids!

Update 8/19/09: Hi everyone, it's me Rosco. I am having so much fun at my foster home. Don't get me wrong, I am still hoping to find that perfect forever home. My foster brother Rylie, the one who can't use his back legs, and I are having a great time. We get to wrestle almost every day when mom comes home. That new picture you see, it's us playing. I know he can't use his back legs, so I lay down on the floor and we face wrestle and sometimes we get the front legs going too.

Update 8/19/09 (continued): My foster mom just loves to watch us play. She said Rylie has never really had anyone to play with like this. We play without hardly making a sound. When we are done, we just sack out on the big blankie.

Original comments:Roscoe is a pleasant Boxer full of energy. He doesn't mind the cats in his foster home and is good with his submissive male foster brother. He is also great with kids. He is housebroken and crate trained. More to come as we get to know him better.

Rosco's story: This is my story as best as I can tell it (with Foster mom’s help). I am a three year old brindle (all boxer boy, full of kisses and bounce). My previous human mom and dad loved me very much and it really upset them to have to make the decision to let me go. Everybody cried that day, but they knew it was the right thing to do. You see, I had an older fur sister and we loved to play (I liked it a lot more than she did).

When she was ready to stop playing and I wasn’t, she would growl at me. Well, just like brothers and sisters, when she would yell, I got rougher, then mom and dad would have to get involved. I usually got a time out for being naughty. This was happening more and more, so my humans decided I needed to be with someone who could handle me better and give me more attention.

That’s where FLBR and my new foster mom came in. When my foster mom came to pick me up I was so happy to see someone new, I just wiggled and kissed. I had no clue what was going on. We all walked out to this huge green truck, by then I was getting nervous, I’m not real sure of car rides; I was confused, what was happening? I thought I was going for a walk. I was picked up and put in the back seat and driven away from my home. Boy was I scared! I couldn't understand why my mom and dad didn't come too? Anyway, I was shaking and my foster mom was crying and saying "poor baby, you’ll be Ok". And she was right. It took me a few days to figure out that I WAS going to be OK.

I have a new older foster brother that can’t walk anymore with his back legs, so I am very gentle with him. There are also two kitties, one is the hugest thing I have ever seen that meows. Foster mom says he weighs 24 pounds. I like to sniff and grunt at the kitties, but I don’t hurt them. I might like to chase cats, but I don’t know cause these two will not run from me. I love kids too. My foster mom’s two grandkids (5 and 13) came over this weekend. I got to chase the little one’s remote controlled car through the house. Boy! That was loads of fun. I tend to get pretty excited when people come in the house. So I am being told that I need obedience training (what ever that is.) Oh and my foster dad, he tries to act so tough when I try to climb up in his lap, but he is putty in my paws. I follow him everywhere, I sleep in the middle of the bed usually right up against my foster dad, sometimes sideways so I can touch mom and dad at the same time.

I have been to the vet and the nice lady there said I was in perfect condition, no icky heartworms or tummy worms and my figure is perfect. I had three shots (ouch!) then I was ready to get back in that green thing to go home. It wasn’t so scary that time.

I am working on the crate training thing. I don't care for that thing at all. I'm completely housetrained and I do pretty good on the leash too. If I sound like your type of fur person, please fill out an app and make an appointment to see me. I have lots of boxer wiggles and kisses just waiting for you!

Rose - Stella Rose

Update 11/17/09 (continued): Every day for 15 days, starting at 3 days old, my brothers and sisters and I had to do puppy exercises to stimulate our minds and make us grounded. The reason I am telling you this is because foster grandma calls us all “Super Puppies”! Foster grandma has kept in contact with several of my brothers and sisters and hears nothing but wonderful things about how smart and gentle all the pups are, and she says I am no different. As you can see by my picture I am a big Boxer girl, all of the pups are, and it’s funny because my mama was only 45 pounds. I am around 70 pounds. However, don’t let my size fool you. I am all puppy and tend to be very rough when Boxer playing with my nanny Twinkie, but I remember Twinkie, and she may be a “pocket Boxer” at 42 pounds, but when she flips me over I know that I’m being too rough (just like old times when I was tiny - I told you I was smart and know when to back down.)

My foster grandma says I need to go into a home with another hard playing Boxer, preferably a boy, but one that is not a really strong alpha, they kind of scare me. I love to walk every morning and am getting much better with not pulling on the leash; however, I really need to be worked with on my recall, I’m not sure what is going to happen when I’m caught so I tend to run the other way. I love love love to play all the time and can entertain myself when I tire Twinkie out, at least for a while. I need a big fenced in back yard to run in and lots of toys, especially the ones that squeak. I love people young and old, but as I said I’m a little on the large boned side so can easily knock over someone not steady on their feet.

Foster grandma says I am just a love and have the sweetest disposition. She can stick her hand in my food bowl and I don’t care. I am now learning to sit and wait to be released to eat, I know how to ring the bell when I want to go out, which is a lot, and most of all I don’t get up on the furniture. As you can tell I really am a “Super Puppy” and will be happy to be your best friend for life.

11/1/09: Rose, now affectionately known as Stella Rose, was born in Florida Boxer Rescue in August of 2007. She is one of Minnie Me's puppies. More to come from her foster home, which is the home where she was born!

Roxie

Update 1/18/10 (continued): So far she has no experience with cats. She will be a great dog with more time and love and boundaries. Her best placement is in a home with a stay-at-home Mom, kids, and other dogs to play with. This little girl is adorable!

1/8/10: Roxie has been with me for one month after her previous owner could no longer keep her. She is so sweet, loves to play, and will sleep in my arms. She is active, wants to be loved on and return love to you. More from Roxie when her foster gets to know her better.

Sadie Sue
1/11/10 (continued):My foster mom says I need to go to the vet for a complete check up before I can go to my fur-ever home. I really want a home that is going to love me and not be mean to me. If you have a home with a careing heart for a sweet Boxer girl like me, just ask for me, Sadie Sue.

From foster mom: The original abuse that Sadie received must have been by a man. We were told she was scared of all men and would hide. However, when we got home, she took to my sons and my husband immediately. She seems timid at first but warms up with kind words. She is definately a velcro dog that follows me from room to room. This beautiful white (hearing) Boxer deserves another chance.

Sanford
1/8/10 (continued):I went to the vet today and the vet said I am about 5-6 years old. I have a very nice smile and have had all of my shots. The vet is helping me with my itchy skin. My foster mom is giving me special baths that really help a lot. I like to lean into her and lay in her lap, she makes me feel safe.

I have a heart of gold and know a lot of tricks. So far, I've shown my family that I can sit, back-up, stay and play frisbee. I'll show them more cool tricks as I start to settle in. I love to go on long walks and I take snacks from anyone who is willing to give them to me in a super-sweet way. I reaaaaallly like chewy snacks and I'm great on a car ride. To sum it up, I am just a handsome, sweet-loving boy looking for a forever family. Do you have room for me as your new best friend? I'll write more in a few days as I settle in. Peace. Sanford

Return

Sasha

Update 4/27/10 (continued): Sasha's ideal home will have a "doggie door" and a fenced yard, preferably with a 6 foot fence (as her prior owners indicated Sasha can jump a fence). Sasha is not an 'escape artist', however, this would be for her safety, especially if there is nobody home during the day.

Sasha will be a wonderful member to a very lucky family!

Update 4/16/10: Hi everyone! I'm Sasha and I'm so excited to tell you about myself. First off, my family, whom I love very much, recognized that I had some health problems and needs that were not being met. They turned me over to FLBR for a second chance and I'm very grateful. I've been with my foster family for a few days and I melted their hearts even before I got to their house - did I tell you I LOVE car rides? I'm a very good passenger! My foster boxer brother, Bo, took some time to adjust to having me around, but I can tell he likes me. He even slept right next to my crate last night. If that isn't puppy love, I don't know what is. (He's not a big kisser like I am though).

Anyway, about my health problems: I have a very sensitive digestive system.

I've been having loose, and sometime bloody stools, we think it's colitis. That means I need to have a bland diet and the ability to go outside whenever I need to because it's not something I can 'hold'. Since changing my food, I've been doing really well! My foster mom says there has been much improvement in 'that department' in only a few days. I haven't had any accidents in the house and as long as I don't eat late in the day, I can sleep all night without having to go outside.

I am GREAT with kids and other dogs. I do not like cats unless I can chase them... and I've got muscles in these legs of mine. I can jump and I'm mostly good about not jumping on people. Sometimes I have to be reminded. I don't get on the furniture unless I'm invited.... well.... okay... mostly. I have snuck up on the couch a time or two. My foster parents say I have something called an 'underbite' which I guess is okay because they said it makes me even more endearing.

I'll keep you updated on me... my foster dad wants to take me and Bo for a walk. Love, Sasha

4/13/10: More information to come as her foster family gets to know her better.

Return

Simba

Update 1/22/10 (continued): I love my crate and sometimes even sleep in my foster parents' bed. My foster mom can't believe I don't ever get into things (they said I might have lived outside my whole life). I am interested in everything but I'm quiet, even when my fur sisters are barking. I love to just chill out. My Lab sister has bad hips and doesn't like to be bothered, so I just give her a kiss and say Hi, but I'm very respectful. My Dogo sister, on the other hand, is full of energy so we play sometimes, but I like to play the most with my skin family. My foster mom says if you want a great dog who is already trained I'm the ONE!!

Update 1/4/10: Simba is one funny Boxer! He opens his mouth wide and talks to you. He is so animated that his big feet dance while he talks. Simba has a quite a sense of humor. He is crate and house trained. He gets along well with female dogs, but should be the only male in the house. His new home should be one where he is supervised when not in his crate, and corrected when needed in order for him to maintain what he has learned. Simba has worked very hard learning to pay attention to his pack leader and is ready for his new forever home. His new home should have a strong pack leader for him to follow and learn from. If you are looking for a handsome boxer to add to your family, Simba is your guy!

11/17/09: Simba is a gorgeous fellow. He had kisses for everyone he met. He will need some basic training and will make a wonderful dog for some lucky family. Do you have an open place for him in your home?

Foster Mom showed up to get me and I hopped right into her SUV... you know, like I have done it a million times. Then we got home and I went right outside where I did my... you know... business. Everything came out fine just in case you wanted to know. There were some dogs that walked by while I was out there and I almost didn't notice. Foster Mom pointed it out because she wanted to see how I would react. Well guess what... I must have done pretty well... you know how I know? I got a cookie! :) Then we came in and foster Mom showed me my bed that she just got all prettied up. Well, actually I showed her that I know all about couches and beds. So I made myself right at home. I hopped right on the couch next to her and laid my head right there on her lap. Then I checked out the pillows... they were good too. Then I found the real dog bed with the toys on it... you know the bed big enough for people and the toys with stuffing in them... stuffed animals I think. That bed was great too. Then I had to check out the window just to make sure everything was good. All seems well. Foster Mom says I am a real "love". But she also said I must not have ever went to "puppy school". She said I am not a bad dog, I just need to learn some thing like how to sit, walk on a leash and some other "dog" things. I guess I must need to go to school because this whole time I thought I was a human... you know like sleeping in their beds and sitting on their couch. I guess I am just confused (maybe because I am a goofy Boxer). I think I get along with dogs but we will need to check. Foster Mom said we will find out for sure in a couple of days. Also we don't know about cats or those little funny people with only 2 feet... I think they are called kids. But we will find out and let you all know. I mean, I must know something since I can use a computer right?! Well, I am going to go now, I am very excited to be in my new home. Foster Mom told me to not get too comfortable since I probably won't be here long... but she said the next place I go will be mine FOREVER! Oh Yeah! Well, I am gonna go. Skip (get it like my name) out of here... I have a lot more to explore (like the vets office tomorrow). I will write more later. Boxer wiggles and kisses... Skip

Sky

Update 8/23/09: Sky here! It sure has been a crazy and confusing few weeks for me. My owner gave me up to FBR after finding out I needed to have a toe removed due to cancer. The vet says I am cured now YEA!!!!! FBR also had me spayed and caught up on my shots. I moved into my foster home and am having lots of fun playing with my two boxer fur-brothers. I sure hope someone out there wants to be my fur-ever friend. Oh, I have the neatest eyes - one blue, one brown.

Foster mom here. Sky is a sweety! She's learning to handle noises like the vacuum, thunder, and hair dryer. If you scold her, Sky will run to her crate and hide.

Update 8/23/09 (continued): She loves to talk, has no problem being crated when we leave the house, and sleeps through the night. We are working on "easy" as she is a little too eager when taking a treat from your hand. She is doing better and gets along really well with our two male boxers. She was an only child before but seems to like having others to play with. She thinks she is a lap dog... all 65 pounds of her!

Original comments: Sky is a beautiful white female with one blue eye and one brown eye. Sky can hear and is a loving girl. She does have to warm up a little first, but watch out as she gives the greatest smooches. Sky, being a typical female, would not get on the scale for her weight. Who could blame a girl for keeping that secret. Please open your hearts and home to this girl - she is a sweetie.

Thoth

10/26/09: Thoth is a wonderful, happy boy. He gives lots of kisses and is a low-key boxer. His coloring is very unique. His looks and laid back lover style makes me think he is the boxer version of Barry White. He has some dental issues which should be corrected soon. Also some question about his hips. Will know more after his first vet appointment on 10-28.

Thoth he was brought into FBR with his best friend Tippy. Tippy has a shyness issue and is very dependant on her best friend Thoth.

Update 10/29/09 (continued): Nothing gets me too excited except maybe a treat. If he didn't have a houseful of boxers now he said he would keep me in a minute. But he can't so I need a good home that will love me and take good care of me. I promise to be a good boy and give you as many kisses as you want. I am crate and house trained. I don't do well with cats, but have gotten along well with other dogs, both boys and girls. While you are reading this, I will give you a tip. See that girl just below me on the page? Her name is Tippy and she's been my best friend for over a year. She's a keeper too! It would be nice if you had room for both of us, but we know that may not happen and that's ok, we can meet new friends too! So remember by name - Thoth - and if you want a cool, laid back, handsome, lovable boxer boy, that would be me. I'd love to fill your home with wags and wiggles, and kisses too.

3/17/10 (continued): I lived with a cat once in my life, but that's been a long time ago and here lately I've been kind of thinking about chasing them. I like to snuggle up with you on the sofa or on the bed? Yes! I'm really good about the whole doing-my-business outside. I seem to remember that I lived with a small human once also, but again, that's been awhile. One of my favorite things EVER is riding in the car, just watching the world go by, and of course, helping you drive. If you're looking for a strong, but loving Boxer boy, here I am!

Willie

Update 12/8/09: Willie here! I am getting comfortable at my new foster home and with my foster brothers. I am housebroken and do not require a crate. I enjoy running and playing in the backyard. My foster dad thinks I run like a gazelle because I'm tall, lean and graceful. I might have a few years under my belt but I still love to play and I cuddle with the best of them. If you give me a chance I will win your heart.

Update 3/30/09: Hi all, my name is Willie. Claire sprung me from Seminole animal services. Man was I happy to get out of there. I’m a little thin right now but my foster dad says that I’ll be back to a healthy weight in no time. He also said that I need to work on my boundaries a little. I like to walk ahead of everyone, so I pull on my leash. Foster dad told me that I am a very good boy in the house and I'm perfectly housetrained, which means that I let him know if I need to go out.

Foster dad here. Willie has a lot of good qualities. He’ll sit and wait while I’m preparing his food. He knows sit, shake, get off the couch, and he does not seem to have any issues with separation anxiety. I’ve left Willie alone with his foster sister for a few hours and everything was in the same place when I returned, with him asleep on the couch. There will be more to come shortly, so check back soon.

Willie is a handsome boy who seems fine with other dogs although we need to watch him around little dogs. Right now he needs to gain some weight and be vetted. We are working on his manners and more will be coming as we get to know Willie.

Update 3/15/10 (continued): young dog is a gem and once his heartworm treatment is complete he will be ready for his forever home. This will take at least 6 weeks, but with the treatment and adding a little weight, he will not only be completely healthy, he will be the most handsome and well behaved fellow on the block.

3/3/10: I broke loose from a house in which I had been abondoned! The people just left me there with no food, water - nothing! Animal control was called and they took me in, and then Florida Boxer Rescue came to my aid. The vet says I am a very nice boy. But, I have something called squirmy wormies (heart) that I have to be treated for.Yoda can sit, give paw, lie down and roll over - someone, at one time, took care of him. He is very friendly and he wanted to gives kisses to everyone he met and be petted in return. Whoever gets this boy will be very lucky. Yoda rode nice in the crate so he might be crate trained. More to come once Yoda is in a foster home. Please watch for updates.
