Adoption Status: Unavailable until end of June

Comments from foster home:

Vesta was surrendered to our organization by her human after having a litter of pups. She appears to be very happy and wiggly. Vesta was formerly kept in an inappropriate setting and therefore has contracted heartworms. We will continue to observe her behavior around other dogs to better understand if she could be placed in a home with a canine buddy or not. More info to come.

Name:  Hope Marie

Comments from foster home:

Hope Marie had the very great misfortune of being used as a breeding machine and was then dumped at Hernando Animal Services. We were lucky to be able to pull her from the shelter. She recently went to an open foster home where she reportedly gets along with the resident dog and has been ignoring the kitties there. We will post more info soon.

UPDATE 4/28/08:

We just started fostering Hope Marie so I wanted to send you an update and a few new pictures for the website. She is still pretty thin, so we'll have to send an updated pic once she puts on some weight. We're just getting to know her, but she is just the sweetest little girl. She's full of Boxer wiggles and is so happy to have a family, but is also very submissive and gets a little scared if she loses sight of us. Hope Marie is learning how to "sit," "stay," and "lay down,"  has excellent manners and seems to be completely housebroken. She gets along very well with the cats and other dogs. She was a puppy mill mommy for a long time, so she's not really sure sure how to play with other dogs, but her Boxer foster sister, Lexi is helping out with that. I will send an update as she gets used to everything and we get to know her better.

Comments from foster home:

Stretch and his sister Jessie were used as breeding dogs and were surrendered to FBR when they were no longer wanted.  Stretch is a very active, handsome boy. He is full of wiggles and kisses and may need some training as he was previously kept in an inappropriate environment.  Stretch will be neutered soon and will then need a loving and responsible forever family to call his own.

Comments from foster home:

Hi, my name is Louie II.  My foster family found me wandering and took me in.  After unsuccessful attempts to find my humans, I was turned over to FBR. My foster family is donating the cost of my heartworm treatment and getting some weight on me.  Then I'll be neutered and ready to go to a responsible home.  I'm a young guy who is learning some manners.  I like to pounce on my foster siblings but they don't like that.  I'm also learning to be around kitties without trying to chase them.  I have kids to play with me and that's always fun.  Keep an eye on me; I should be ready to go to my forever home in a month or two.  Can't wait to meet you!

UPDATE 5/6/08:

Louie no longer chases the cats or jumps on his housemates. He has calmed down a lot; I think he was just not used to being in a real home setting or spending time around other animals, but now he fits in well. He loves to play with the basketball and he loves his crate. When I was cleaning the other day and moving it around, he got in it when I was sliding it across the floor and looked up at me as if to say "Please don't move my house!"  LOL. We are also teaching him to "sit" and "stay."

Comments from foster home:

Payton is a big, gentle boy.  We were able to save his life by pulling him out of Lake County Animal Services. He knows "sit" and "shake" commands but will do most anything you ask of him.  He's willing to share toys and food, likes riding in the car and walks nicely on the leash. He even tolerates the puppy pulling on his collar when she wants to play.  He's got a great temperament and acts like he's been here for a long time. I'm sure more of his personality will emerge day by day so be sure to check for updates as we learn more about this great boy.

Comments from foster home:

Mercy was pulled from the Lee County Animal Services.  She was picked up as a wandering stray so there is no telling what this poor girl has been through.  The only one who may have a clue is Ruff. Hopefully Mercy will recover just as Ruff has.  She has a long road ahead of her and her new foster parents are looking forward to helping her on that road to recovery.

Please consider the other wonderful dogs on our website. Mercy will be unavailable indefinitely. Applications for this sweet girl will not be considered until she is recovered.

UPDATE 4/2/08:

Mercy has gone "home" with her foster mom today. She responded well to her treatment and stay at the vet's office. She does have hookworms and is on meds, as well as a little cold and was given antibiotics for that.

UPDATE 4/14/08:

This is Mercy's foster mom checking in to share her progress....She is adjusting well to her new situation. "Home" seems like a new and strange place for Mercy. She is starting to bond with Richard and I...slipping us tender kisses now and then, a bit of a tail wag and always looking for body contact.  She is so sweet - very quiet now but with much TLC she will find her "Boxer" voice.

Comments from foster home:

Gina was pulled from Hillsborough County Animal Services. She is a sweet Boxer girl beginning heartworm treatment so she will not be available for adoption for a while. Check back for more info soon.

UPDATE 4/25/08:

Hi, this is Gina. I've been in my foster home for a week now, so I'm still settling in and getting to know my extended foster family. I'm skinny and weak 'cuz I'm getting treated for my heartworms, so I get to lie around all day while everyone waits on me. Food is starting to taste a lot better, so I'm eating more of it. For some reason, my foster mom thinks that's a really great thing to do. I'm kinda shy around people and have trouble looking right at them (as you can tell from my photo), but that doesn't keep me from staying close for some soothing strokes. I'm trying to get used to all the new things around me, but I can't stop slipping on these hard floors! My foster mom took care of that and now we have these great little rugs all over the place. I'm feeling a lot better and it surprised everyone that I barked today when I saw my foster brother coming to visit. These humans are sure easy to please. I don't need a crate right now since I'm recuperating and my foster mom works at home. My housetraining is coming along...only two accidents. Of course, I didn't think they were accidents...I really meant to poop!

It's going to be a couple months before I really get back my Boxer energy. I wag my little stub, but can't quite manage the wiggle. A little more love should take care of that. My foster mom says I need to learn a few commands, like "sit" and "down," but right now I have no idea what she means! Well, gotta run... I mean mosey on over to my bed for a rest. Catch you later.

~Sweet Gina

UPDATE 5/8/08:

This morning I took Gina to Lake Seminole Animal Hospital for her second heartworm treatment. She'll be staying two nights and come home on Saturday. They'll give her an injection today and one tomorrow. She will then have one more treatment left to go, but it's an oral treatment and she won't have to stay overnight.

To make her feel less abandoned, I took her bed and her own food. I'm not sure who looked more sad -- me or Gina!  Oh, she now weighs 66.7 pounds, so she's gained nearly 4 pounds in the last few weeks. And she looks really wonderful. Also, she's much more engaging....she now has enough courage to look at you and interact with you.  I've also discovered that Gina has a spectacularly big bark!

House training is coming along fairly well...very few accidents.  I'm not quite sure if she "gets" it yet, or if I'm just lucky and get her outside at the right time. Either way is good for now.

I'll let you know how she's doing after she's back home from the vet's office.

Louie is considered a Boxer mix

Comments from foster home:

Surprised to see a Boxer mix among all these purebreds?  Yeah, FBR cannot normally take mixes into the program but let me tell you how I got here.  Someone was actually cruel enough to PUSH ME OUT OF A CAR in Maitland, FL a month ago.  A good samaritan called FBR because she thought I was a Boxer.  So a volunteer (who is now my foster mom) looked for me for THREE WHOLE DAYS!  She says I'm the "eLOUsive" Louie.  After days of sightings and frantic attempts to capture me,  I was finally found and ruled a Boxer mix.  But after searching for me non-stop for 3 days, my foster mom just couldn't turn me away because I didn't look all Boxer, so here I am!  I play like a Boxer with my foster siblings and have many Boxer traits.  BUT, I am alllll puppy.  I have a skin condition and have to be neutered and then I can find a forever home!  I love to play with other doggies; I'm kid friendly and very social.  The resident cat was not very nice so I don't think I'm going to like those furry things very much.  I am very willing to learn.  I already know how to "sit," "shake," and "lay down."  I'm learning not to jump up, but sometimes I'm just so excited (see, I told you I'm very Boxer-like)! I also know how to go potty in the backyard and NOT in the house.  I'm so smart.  So, that's me in a nutshell.  I would love to play all day and cuddle all night.  Will it be with you?  I never want to be treated like garbage again. Come visit me if you want a buddy for life.

Comments from foster home:

Thoth is a beautiful fawn Boxer. He was very good on the car ride from the shelter. He walked comfortably on the leash and gave lots of sweet kisses on the drive to the kennel. Thoth was pulled from the Hillsborough shelter with his brother after both were turned in for getting into an altercation with a cat. He has been separated from his brother recently and seemed sad to go from animal control to a kennel to sit and wait for a foster home to open up.  Thoth has been at the kennel for weeks and REALLY needs a foster home. Can you help?

UPDATE 3/16/08:

Hey, Thoth here. My foster parents are getting to know me better.  I am starting to play with my fur siblings and am working on crate training. I am 100% housebroken.  I can climb a fence. I can give Boxer kisses and I don't bark much. More to come as my foster family gets to know me better.

Jericho was pulled from Polk County Animal Services. Jericho was very well behaved and sweet on the ride from the shelter to the kennel and just wanted to give his volunteer driver loads of kisses as if to say "Thanks for springing me out of there!" He just went to our first open foster home, so more information will be forthcoming.

Comments from foster home:

Hi! My name is Skipper and my previous human decided he would give me up so I could go to a home that would give me lots of attention and love. I was never taught any commands but my foster mommy is working with me and now I will sit and give you my paw! She also needs to work with me more on a leash. I like to go for walks but I am all over the place!  I am a good boy, very sweet and will stay by your side at all times if you will let me. I am not too fond of the crate but with a little convincing, I will go in. I do like to lie in my crate when the door is left open. I am housebroken and do not chew on anything, even the toys that lie all over the place that are for my foster buddies. I tolerate my foster buddies but I do not play or interact with them much. I ride well in a vehicle but it takes a bit of coaxing to get me into the vehicle. I think that with love, patience and attention I could be the best Boxer boy and I know I am smart and could learn a lot. I am filled with tons of love and affection and would just love to find a new forever home and give it all to you.

UPDATE 5/4/08:

Skipper is now back with me in foster care. We have tried to place him appropriately, but through trial and error, have learned that Skipper needs to go to a forever home that has no children. He has a very low tolerance for kids.  He is wonderful with adults and is lovable and wants a lot of attention. Skipper does very well with the 4 dogs I have in my home now, but still has a tendency to be a loner. He could be placed with at least one other dog, preferably female and close to his size. He can be very playful with my shepherd and does well with my three other dogs that are a bit smaller. Skipper is a very good dog full of love and affection for the right home. He does exceptionally well with me and has NEVER shown one ounce of aggression. Being kept on a runner in the backyard for the first two years of his life only having contact with humans for feeding, certainly did not do him any favors as far as socialization is concerned. We will never know for sure where his dislike of children stems from but one could make a comfortable assumption that he could have been teased or tormented by kids in the past. Skipper is a great dog that needs a specific kind of home to thrive and be comfortable and happy in. If you think you are a good match, please don't hesitate to fill out our online application for this handsome Boxer boy.

Name:  Macho

Age:  10 months

Gender: Male

Coloring: Fawn

Weight:  57 lbs

Adoption Status: Available end of April

Posted to website:  2/4/08   Dog Number:  F08-030

Location:    Bethany in Port Charlotte,  Sandy is contact

Comments from foster home:

"Macho" was surrendered to FBR because he has demodex (mange). He is an active 10-month-old Boxer boy who loves to play, give kisses, and be cuddled. "Macho" is really a big mush! He is  a handsome boy who gets along well with other dogs, cats (and is even getting used to rabbits) and he absolutely loves children! He knows

some basic commands ("sit," "down," etc.) and walks well on a leash. Demodex affects the domestic dog and is not transmitted to people or other dogs (except from mother dog to pup). Demodectic

mange is not contagious. Macho needs good nutrition, antibiotics, and consistent vet care to overcome this skin condition. He will make a complete recovery and like "Ruff" "Brady," and "Cognac," Macho will grow stronger each day until he

is ready to be adopted. Once his demodex is cleared up, he will be a

beautiful Boxer boy ready for his new forever home! Check back soon.

UPDATE 3/8/08:

Macho-man has had an exciting few months! He has settled in nicely to his foster home, getting along well with his foster fur-siblings, and he's a hit with the neighborhood skin-kids. He is house broken and crate trained. Each evening around 11pm he goes to his crate all by himself and settles in for the night. He loves to chase cats and will play rough with them if he can get away with it. Macho listens when told "no cat" but if given the opportunity he will sneak off to chase them some more. Macho is a typical playful Boxer puppy. He loves to frolic in the yard and play at the park with other dogs. Everything is a toy too, including Dad's sneakers and the kids' stuffed animals! When corrected he lowers his head and acts humble, but two minutes later there he goes again with another pair of shoes!! Macho says, "But Mom, you told me no about the sneakers... you didn't say I couldn't play with the flip-flops!" Macho has good indoor manners and loves to sit by your feet to take a little nap or, when invited, climb in your lap for kisses and cuddling.

Macho has been to the vet several times and continues to undergo treatment for Demodex. The vet has told us that it will still be several months before we will see a dramatic improvement in his condition. Macho will not be available for adoption until he has a clean bill of health and is then neutered.

Comments from foster home:

I am very scared right now.  I have lived with my family for 7 years and they have fallen on hard times. I get
to meet my foster mom next week and I can't wait. I love to ride in the car and give hugs and kisses to kids.
I may not be the greatest relating with other dogs but I will be your loyal friend.

UPDATE 12/17/07:

Hey, Shylo here -

I love my foster mom but would really love a place of my own by Christmas.

I am a perfect gentleman in the car and love taking in all the sights

and sounds while looking cool.

I've been told I need some work on my leash manners and commands (seems I only like to "sit").

I am a very mellow guy who loves his toys and I dont jump either. I do counter surf once and awhile but if you keep things out of my reach it won't be a big deal at all.

Children are my favorite, but I do not enjoy cats or small dogs.

Please, please - I really want to find a forever home. I've been waiting so long.

Your friend,

Shylo

Comments from foster home:

Hooch is a very handsome Boxer guy that is full of energy and has his natural tail! He is very happy to be out of the shelter and in our home.  Hooch loves taking US for walks, and is learning the harness and leash. He's in "school" and is learning the sit command at this very moment.  He plays very well with all his new toys, and has claimed the couch for himself.  Hooch is a sweet, loveable and affectionate guy who thinks he is a lap dog!

UPDATE 3/26/08:

I have learned to "sit," and "stay" and am getting much better on my harness/leash. I simply love to go for walks.  I just love children, but am very large and clumsy.  I would not recommend I go to a home with small children, as sometimes I forget how big I truly am!  I love to play with my toys, and have learned to fetch.  At bedtime I kiss my foster parents good night and retreat to my cozy crate. My foster mom has spoiled me and has given me a fluffy quilt to sleep on!!

Comments from foster home:

Jupiter is a very handsome, young boy who loves to run and play (this is what his foster home reports after just one night).

Jupiter is doing very well.  He played all night and all morning with the resident puppy.  Jupiter does jump a bit and knocks over the skinkid in his foster hom .  He is fully potty trained.  He needs some obedience training to learn how to listen to commands, however.  So far Jupiter knows "sit," and is very eager to learn.  He just seems so happy to be loved & petted.

Jupiter needs to be brought up to date on vaccines and needs to be neutered.  After that he'll be ready to go.  Check back for more on Jupiter as the foster family learns more about him.

Comments from foster home:

Ruby was surrendered to FBR because her family including 6 children and 2 other Boxers, did not want to deal with her demodex.  She is a sweet little girl who is very happy to be in a home where she can get the love and attention she craves.  Ruby is showing signs of blossoming into a marvelous little Boxer girl.  She will be ready for her forever home after she is spayed and has completed her demodex treatments.  Check back for updates on Ruby's progress.

UPDATE 4/6/08:

Hi, Ruby here.  Just wanted to let you all know how happy I am that Florida Boxer Rescue and my Foster Mom and Dad were there when I needed them.  I was scared, skinny, starved for attention and very misunderstood 9 month old puppy when some really nice people came to my rescue.  I really love all the attention and care and love I am getting in my new foster home.  I really can't believe life is supposed to be like this!

Mom says my d e m o d e x (I think that's how you say it) is getting better and she says I've gained a few pounds.  I guess that's good, but I don't want to over do it. I want to keep my girlish figure as long as I can!  I get to go see the nice people at the Vet's office this week to see if the yucky worms are gone and to check on my demodex and maybe I will be spayed real soon (don't know what that is but Mom says I gotta do it so I can go to my new "furever home").

Mom says my "puppy" has re-emerged but I need to learn some house rules:

1. It is NOT okay to jump up on people when I am excited to see them.

2. Leashes are used for walks...NOT tug-of-war!

3. No means no...regardless of how cute one's face is (but Mom, you gotta

remember to put your flip-flops away or they are fair game)!

I got to visit my foster grandparents; they have some small dogs and they were okay. It was fun to play with them a little. Mom say I have to be respectful.  I've seen kitties; they sure do smell different than dogs, but hey, no big deal.  Skin kids are okay too.  I really am just as happy though to play with my toys on my own.  Mom says I'm great at amusing myself as well as my whole foster family.

Mom says she absolutely loves me and is dedicated to finding me the perfect home that will make me a part of the family and not just a pet.  Gee that sure sounds nice. Thanks Mom.

UPDATE 4/28/08:

Hi there!  It's me again! Well, I  got spayed last week but it barely slowed me down. I gotta go back to the Doc's office later this week to see if my Demodex is over and done with. I sure do hope so.  I am up to 42 lbs now & absolutely beautiful if I do say so myself.

I have discovered the most marvelous thing in the whole world...SPRINKLER SYSTEMS!  I LOVE chasing water squirted from hoses.  My Foster Mom has had to adjust our walks because if I see a sprinkler system on...or someone outside with a hose...I get so excited I try to drag Mom there. I don't know why she gets upset, it's FUN to get SOAKIN' WET!!  I got to go to the beach (Sanibel) where I learned how to swim.  At first I was a little 'skittish' around the waves - but by the end of the day, I was chasing shells Mom & Dad were throwing in the water.  I even like frozen water.  Crunching on ice cubes is another favorite pastime...Life with FBR is sooooo cool; I just never dreamed it could be so great to be alive.

Daisy was turned over to FBR by her former human for safety reasons. This beautiful, unspayed female was relegated to life outdoors alone and constantly jumped the fence. FBR will have her visit the vet for a check-up and after being spayed, she will be available to a loving home where she will be part of the family.  Daisy loves riding in the car and going to the beach. She is so sweet and soft and gives great kisses. Check back for more info.
