The Boxer is a member of the WORKING group of dogs.

The following information is from the AKC standard for the Boxer breed:  "The ideal Boxer is a medium-sized, square-built dog of good substance with short back, strong limbs, and short, tight-fitting coat. His well-developed muscles are clean, hard, and appear smooth under taut skin. His movements denote energy. The gait is firm yet elastic, the stride free and ground-covering, the carriage proud. Developed to serve as guard, working, and companion dog, he combines strength and agility with elegance and style. His expression is alert and his temperament steadfast and tractable."

Size: Adult males 23 to 25 inches; females 21½ to 23½ inches at the withers.

Colors: The AKC only recognizes two colors in the Boxer: fawn and brindle.

Below we have posted various pictures showing examples of the colors and markings of the Boxer dog. Some terms you may find helpful are:

Flashy ~ The white color found on the muzzle, extending upwards between the eyes, also on the chest, collar/neck and legs (up to 1/3 of the body)

Cropped ~ Ears of the Boxer that have been cut and taped so that they may stand erect (photo #1).

Brindle ~ The black striping on a Boxer's fawn coat. If the black striping appears more prevalent than the fawn color, the dog's coloring is considered "reverse" brindle.
