Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster home for Florida Boxer Rescue. We can only help as many dogs as we have space for! We hope you find the following information helpful in your quest to become a volunteer foster family for FBR, Inc.is how it works: If interested, please fill out an application ( it's the same one that we use for adoption ). The instructions and form are located here. Note in the "comments" section, that you would like to become a foster home for Boxers. An FBR volunteer in your area will review your application and contact you for a visit at your home. Foster homes are screened in the same manner as potential adoptive homes. Once approved, the foster home will receive a Boxer that appears to be compatible. An FBR mentor will be available as a source of information and experience, to all new foster homes. The foster home provides for the foster Boxer as if he were their own. This includes, but is not limited to: food, indoor shelter, bedding, toys, heartworm preventative (FBR can provide), flea/tick preventative (FBR can provide), basic training, positive reinforcement and of course, lots of TLC! As the foster parent, you would also need to send our webmaster information about the dog (including a picture) for posting on the website. There is a specific "enrollment form" for this purpose. Our target is for the dog to stay with the foster home for at least 1-2 weeks so that you may get to know the dog and his habits, as it is an invaluable way to ensure the most proper placement possible. Some Boxers may be at a foster home much longer than a few weeks. FBR and the foster home coordinate veterinarian visits. We have our own vet network which supplies care at the most reasonable cost. FBR will pay for the vet bills but vet visits MUST be coordinated beforehand with one of the officers (except in the case of an emergency).
When a family is approved for adoption and is interested in your foster Boxer, you will be contacted by a member of the Adoption Committee to arrange for a visit. You, as the foster parent, would have the final authority regarding the placement of your foster dog. We trust that the foster families are the best at determining the most compatible homes for the Boxers in our program. The final step in the adoption process is to have the adoptive family fill out an Adoption Contract (which will be provided for you - most of our forms are now available for printing right from the web). You would also collect the adoption fee from the family and forward the paperwork and money to the FBR bookkeeper. You would also file an Adoption Notification form to inform the webmaster of needed changes to the website.
Questions? If you have additional questions or concerns regarding foster home care, please feel free to email us at info@flbr.org or call 1.888.612.5782 and we will try our best to answer your questions in a timely manner. Thank you for your interest in a rewarding volunteer position at FBR. Foster Homes are an absolute integral part of what we do! If we didn't have Foster Homes, we wouldn't be able to save the lives of hundreds of unwanted Boxers each year!
