Foster a Boxer and Help Give a Dog a New Leash on Life
We can only help as many dogs as we have space for! Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster home for Florida Boxer Rescue. It's only with your help that we can continue to rescue and rehabilitate Boxers in need.
If you would like to foster and have questions or plan to fill out an application, please send an email to foster@flbr.org so that an FBR volunteer may speak with you directly.
How can I foster an FBR dog?
First, you'll need to fill out an application to be approved as a foster home. An FBR volunteer in your area will review your application and contact you for a visit at your home. Foster homes are screened in the same manner as potential adoptive homes.
Once approved, the foster home will receive a Boxer that appears to be compatible. An FBR mentor will be available as a source of information and experience to all new foster homes.
What does a foster home provide for a foster dog?
Other than a new chance at life, the foster home provides for the foster Boxer as if he were their own. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
food
-
indoor shelter, bedding, and toys
-
heartworm preventative (FBR can provide), flea/tick preventative (FBR can provide)
-
basic training, positive reinforcement and of course, lots of TLC!
FBR and the foster home coordinate veterinarian visits. We have our own vet network which supplies care at the most reasonable cost. FBR will pay for the vet bills but vet visits MUST be coordinated beforehand with one of the officers (except in the case of an emergency).
As the foster parent, you would also need to send our webmaster information about the dog (including a picture) for posting on the website. Our target is for the dog to stay with the foster home for at least 1-2 weeks so that you may get to know the dog and his habits, as it is an invaluable way to ensure the most proper placement possible. Some Boxers may be at a foster home much longer than a few weeks.
What happens when my foster dog is adopted?
When a family is approved for adoption and is interested in your foster Boxer, you will be contacted by a member of the Adoption Committee to arrange for a visit.
You, as the foster parent, will have the final authority regarding the placement of your foster dog. We trust that the foster families are the best at determining the most compatible homes for the Boxers in our program.
The final step in the adoption process is to have the adoptive family fill out an Adoption Contract (which will be provided for you - most of our forms are now available for printing right from the web). You will collect the adoption fee from the family and forward the paperwork and money to the FBR bookkeeper. You will also need to file an Adoption Notification form to inform the webmaster of needed changes to the website.
Fostering is a great way to help provide short-term love and care for a Boxer who desperately needs your help. Fill out the FBR Foster Application today to help a dog tomorrow.
