$142,536.00

This is the amount of money that Florida Boxer Rescue, Inc. paid for veterinarian services in 2006 for the 299 dogs that came into our program.

This total is taken directly from our official 2006 tax return.

Are you as shocked by this number as I was?

Unfortunately, many of the Boxers that enter our rescue and rehabilitation program have lived without proper vet care. They are not spayed or neutered, are not up to date on recommended vaccines and an incredible amount of dogs come in affected with heartworms. This is something completely preventable, but many people still do not protect their dogs against heartworms.

As you can imagine, our vet tabs add up quickly with the majority of Boxers needing medical attention in some capacity upon their arrival into rescue. This does not include the Boxers who come in after being hit by cars, with broken bones, with existing ailments, or those needing expensive, yet life sustaining surgeries.

$142, 536.00.

WOW.

Currently, we are nine months into 2007, and have astronomical bills. We can attribute this to the abnormal number of Boxers admitted into our program this year needing hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in vet and rehab costs in order to be given a chance at life and adoption.

FBR, Inc. will NOT turn away a Boxer in need solely because of a high estimated vet bill. In order to continue our efforts, we need your financial assistance! Along with an increased number of medically needy dogs this year the daily, multiple emails and calls about Boxers do not stop coming. We can only help these dogs if we have the funds! Please consider giving a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation in any amount (anything helps-trust us!). You can do so securely online (scroll to bottom of page) or send a check to the address at bottom of page. Thanks for your support.

Your generosity will allow us to help additional Boxer dogs like the ones featured below.

Sasha is a 1 ½ year old female "owner surrender" that came to FBR because she had endured chronic bloody diarrhea since she was a puppy and her pet parents could no longer afford her medical care. Sasha is an amazing Boxer with a true warrior spirit to have survived in her condition and all the while maintain the sweetest of dispositions. We started medical tests right away at Lake Seminole AH. First, we discovered Giardia and treated her with no improvement. Next, we brought in a specialist and Sasha was diagnosed with antibiotic responsive ulcerative colitis which required an eight week antibiotic therapy. Her bowel condition improved greatly, but during her healing process, Sasha came down with a very serious case of pneumonia, which required more tests and more drugs and supportive care at the emergency hospital. Sasha's medical care costs totaled $2,402.00, but I am happy to report that she has found her forever home and is thriving. She is now a happy, healthy Boxer girl and her new family counts their blessings everyday.

Ty is a 5 year old male Boxer who was surrendered to us, after being bounced around in many homes. Somewhere along the line, Ty suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury of the knee, that was never treated. This old injury caused him great pain and medication was just not going to be adequate, so Ty was seen by Dr. Hay, an orthopedic surgeon, who performed surgery and repaired the ligament. This surgery totaled $1,250. Ty now lives with a wonderful family that adores him, which includes two small children. He is truly a member of their family and we couldn't be more pleased for him.

Ryder's vet bills were $1,791 which was a combination of regular vetting and holistic vetting.  He had intestinal issues as well as epilepsy.  Ryder was starting to recover from his intestinal problems using the holistic medicines but his seizures were getting progressively worse. After desperately attempting everything possible to save this poor little 1 year old puppy, we reluctantly decided to have him euthanized to end his suffering. Although Ryder was not able to be saved and adopted, without FBR, he would not have been given the opportunity of being rehabilitated.

Dewey was recently adopted and his vet bills totaled $2,500.00  He was born with genetic problems in his knees.  After trying various medications it was determined he would need a full knee replacement.  Dewey is another of our very young, wonderful Boxers, who needs expensive vet services.  Because of FBR, he will go on to live a long, happy life in his forever home with both legs fully functioning!

We Need Your Help!

Even though FBR imposes an adoption fee that is immediately applied to our vet bills, the amount ranges from $175.00 to $300.00 - and barely puts a dent in the amount we owe to our generous area vets. Our volunteers work hard and hold several fundraisers per year to raise additional money for our rescue program, but ultimately we must rely on donations from the public as well. If it weren't for donations, we would never be able to accomplish what we do.

ANY AMOUNT will be graciously accepted and WILL DEFINITELY HELP our efforts. Please consider making a donation towards our medical bills. Your kindness and generosity will allow us to help additional Boxers in need that are brought to our attention.

Thank you in advance.
